Quayside Court is at the heart of Wells next the Sea, looking out across lobster pots and fishing boats into the busy harbour and channel. Walking out of the property, you come immediately onto the Quay, with the recently-renovated Golden Fleece pub less than a minute’s walk away, and the fantastic array of independent shops on Staithe Street running back from the Quay into the centre of the village.
Just over a mile along the sea wall is Wells Beach, which joins up to Holkham Beach and provides miles of unspoilt sand, sea, and pinewoods providing unbounded fun and adventure for children in summer. There is also crab fishing on Wells Quay (our all-time record is 112 crabs in one session – let us know if you beat that!) If you are keen sailor, or just want to try it out, Oceanus Sailing School on the East Quay provide excellent courses at all levels through the summer, tides permitting.
The Coasthopper bus service runs regularly along the cost in both directions in season – ideal for long walks along the coast, so you don’t have to walk home again afterwards! You can hire bikes in the town, and there are excellent cycling routes around Wells – including routes through the Holkham Estate that largely avoid the roads.
Further afield, you can visit Sheringham, Cromer, Blakeney, Holt, Brancaster, Cley – all definitely worth a visit in their different ways. There is the Muckleburgh Collection, a truly remarkable set of tanks, armoured vehicles, and military history – with the bonus of optional rides on their personnel vehicle, and daily tank demonstrations! Holkham Hall, Houghton Hall, Blicking Hall and Felbrigg Hall are all within an easy drive (and many of them host open air concerts in the summer).
